Storyville- Upstairs at the Saloon

What sort of crazy decadent things happened in the back rooms of the saloons we see in Westerns?  I recently watched Storyville on Netflix, a Corporation for Public Broadcasting documentary about a red light district in New Orleans from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  Our forefathers were a crazed, decadent bunch.  Worth your viewing time, indeed.

  1. I agree. Watching it was time well spent. The photographs shed light on conditions of that era. It was interesting to see the rooms, the flooring the lighting, all the while imagining Jelly Roll Morton playing piano downstairs. The smell of Magnolia. Oh well, I had the '80's.

  2. Having read Bright Lights, Big City and American Psycho I'm not sure I envy you the '80s. I was mostly watching GI Joe cartoons that decade.
